Welcome to this blog on the Nature-based Future challenge. I am Indira, a Bsc student from Wageningen University pursuing an internship and doing Research in Bangladesh. You can read my experiences about my time here.
Presently, I am enganged with my NatureSync team in the WUR student challenge to find Nature-based solutions for the delta in Bangladesh. To read more about what the challenge is about, click here.
Together with students from different nationalities and study focuses, we are exploring the different regions of Bangladesh, and the challenges and opportunities that the diversity of Bangladesh is providing.
Our team consist of 11 students from The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Brazil. Our studies include forest and nature conservation, aquaculture, environmental sciences, biology, consumer studies, geographic information systems, land and water management, food technology, soil-water-atmosphere and urban environmental management.
We started our exploration by creating a map with different regions in Bangladesh. We defined these regions based on their unique geomorphological characteristics and natural processes. To do so, we used available literature including a data file we received from the Student Challenge organisation. After discussing with the team, we drafted the first overview of our established regions:
Next, we took the same approach for defining challenges and opportunities. We made a SWOT analysis for Bangladesh as a delta country, and drafted the following poster afterwards:
Our team still has a journey ahead in exploring possible nature-based solutions, using opportunities in tackling the challenges. In the next blog post I will update on our final outputs from the first round, which will be on the 4th of February.
